Member ResourcesThe Waterloo Law Association Law Library is a privately funded library. Staff services, electronic resources and the collection are for the exclusive use of members of the Waterloo Law Association, articling students and members in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada. Most print material can be signed out for 3 days. Loose-leaf reference material can be borrowed short term by special arrangement with library staff. Borrowing privileges are restricted to paid members of the Association and their students. To view the catalogue and search our collection, log onto the Law Society web catalogue ADVOCAT. Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday 8:45 - 5:00 Photocopying and Printing Self-serve or staff assisted photocopying and printing is available in the library. Photocopy and print charges are 25¢ per page. Copies and printing can be accumulated and invoiced monthly. Invoices totaling less than the minimum charge of $3.00 are subject to a Service Charge. Lawyers, students and office staff must comply with Copyright Act provisions. Details are available from library staff.
Faxing, Scanning and Emailing Members can request material to be faxed, scanned or emailed to their office. There is currently no cost to have library staff email up to 10 cases, if the lawyer is unable to come to the library and time is of the essence. There is a $5.00 charge for each additional case. A .25/page charge applies to faxing and scanning material regardless of the number of pages.
Computer Assisted Research Through the LibraryCo Toolkit,members and articling students have free access to LexisNexis Quicklaw and Criminal Spectrum In addition, the law library subscribes to Westlaw eCarswell and The Wrongful Dismissal Database. Members also have access to O'Brien's Canadian Forms & Precedents online. Library staff are available to help you get your research underway.
Document Delivery / Interlibrary Loan In January 2003 a formal Document Delivery Agreement was adopted by LibraryCo concerning the sharing of resources amongst county and district law libraries. The agreement allows for the lending and borrowing of returnable (books) and non-returnable (copies) material between all libraries. If we don’t have what you need we can get it for you in most cases, the next business day. There is no charge to our members for this service.
