Recruitment of Articling Students
for the 2010 - 2011 Articling Period

The Trustees of the Waterloo Law Association wish to remind all lawyers practicing in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo that the Law Society of Upper Canada has developed a procedural protocol to be followed by law firms for the purposes of interviewing and recruiting Articling Students for an Articling Term.

The Procedures Governing the Recruitment of Articling Students are binding on all students and lawyers who participate in the articling recruitment program in Ontario. Compliance with the procedure is required under the provisions of Rule 5.01(1) of the Law Society's Rules of Professional Conduct. Failure to follow the protocol may result in a charge of Professional Misconduct against the offending lawyer. Candidates who fail to follow the protocol could also find that their qualification for admission to the practice law in Ontario has been compromised.

Lawyers practising in the Regional Municipality of Waterloo who wish to recruit Articling Students for the 2010 - 2011 articling period are governed by sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Secion B of the Procedures Governing the Recruitment of Articling Students subject to the following modifications:

The Committee for Waterloo Region, with the approval of the Waterloo Law Association, has decided that interviews are to be held during the week of May 11 to 15, 2009 inclusive. The Waterloo Law Association would appreciate all lawyers following the Procedures Governing the Recruitment of Articling Students.
