Former NHLer Shayne Corson Shares his Mental Health Journey
Tuesday, May 2, 2023 (4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.)
It's CMHA National Mental Health Awareness week from May 1-7, 2023 and the WRLA is excited to feature mental health advocate and former NHL player Shayne Corson sharing his personal recovery from anxiety and depression.
Shayne Corson is a Canadian former professional hockey player who played in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Dallas Stars. Shayne Corson captained two NHL clubs during his 19-season professional career. He has also played for Canada at the Canada Cup, World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, World Cup of Hockey and 1998 Winter Olympics. However, for most his NHL career, the 19 years, the 1,156 games for five different teams, Shayne Corson suffered from anxiety, depression and panic attacks. Corson kept his anxiety problem to himself. His coaches didn’t know. His general managers didn’t know. His agent didn’t really know. The odd teammate, the close ones, knew, and his mom knew, and maybe a few family members. Please Join Shayne to hear about his struggles and recovery from anxiety and depression.
