A child protection matter needs to be handled with the utmost care. Our experienced presenters teach you key strategic and advocacy skills for each stage of the case. They reinforce your understanding of the issues with numerous practical demonstrations, including conduct of temporary care and custody hearings, conferences, opening and closing statements, voir dires, and examinations of witnesses. You also receive relevant materials including topical case law, precedents, and social science literature. You come away from this conference with an enhanced knowledge of the fundamentals in this important area of law to better serve your clients' interests.
Registrants who attend this program in-person or by webcast are eligible to be placed on the Legal Aid Child Protection panel.
- Observe demonstrations of a temporary care hearing, case conference, cross-examination, re-examination, and more
- Understand the grounds, timing, and case law in making the finding "in need of protection"
- Hear about the law of hearsay in protection proceedings
