Charitable Bequests as part of Estate Planning:

How Waterloo Region Community Foundation Can help Navigate the Complex Charitable Sector For You and Your Clients

    When: Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 1:00 pm-2:00 pm

    Where: Virtual (Zoom)

Chair: Dan Robert, Director of Philanthropy, Waterloo Region Community Foundation

This program qualifies for 20 min of Professionalism and 40 min of Substantive

The number of Canadians leaving charitable bequests in their Wills is increasing; however, donors don’t often know where to start when it comes to identifying community need and understanding how to maximize the impact of their generosity. Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) operates as the most comprehensive charitable granting body in Waterloo Region, with hyper-local expertise related to the approximately 1,000 charities and non-profit organizations in the area. Learn more about the resources that WRCF offers to help you and your clients navigate the ever-evolving needs of the charitable sector. This session will be especially helpful if you find yourself supporting clients who:

    • Appreciate the tax benefits of including charitable beneficiaries in their Will but don’t have any specific ones they are passionate about (yet)
    • Have areas of interest they feel strongly about (i.e. environment, youth, mental health) but not necessarily specific charities within those areas
    • Have their own private family foundation but are struggling around succession planning and/or are growing tired of the amount of administrative work required to maintain the foundation
    • Want their favourite charities to be supported in perpetuity
    • Want to include a number of charitable beneficiaries
    • Understand that the future needs of the community are impossible to predict, and want their charitable legacy to be flexible and adaptable to those needs

    Cost: WRLA Members - Free; Non-Members - $50
